ABOUT LAWATCO
Lawatco was formed in Cyril, OK, prior to statehood. It started with the discovery of oil in Oklahoma. Lawatco progressed from oil delivery (from the oil field to the refinery) to full-service gasoline stations selling to the early emerging motor carriage, later to become the auto industry.
One of the founders was Alford Bertie “Burt” Lake. Lawatco founder Burt’s son, Farris Lake, started a filter company (General Filter) with a partner, Mr. Ray, to service the oil field around Duncan, OK, in the mid-1950s. The partnership did not last, and the company morphed into a motor oil distributing company serving the southwest part of OK.
Farris’ son, Stephen Lake (Steve), started Omega Motion, a company that developed, patented and produced recliner and motion mechanisms for the furniture industry in 1996. Eight years later, it was the largest manufacturer of these products globally and distributed products to every continent except Antarctica.
After retiring from the mechanism industry, Steve, along with his wife Carol, reformed Lawatco to honor his ancestors and have a platform to invest in other businesses.

My Grandfather, who originally built Lawatco, is Alford Bertie “Burt” Lake. My Grandmother was Marie Serena Lake and studied music at Julliard School of Music.
My Father was Farris Richard Lake and my Mother was Velma Alfreda Lake. Velma studied at The University of Southern California before receiving her degree in Oklahoma.
Farris owned Farris Lake Distributing Company in Duncan in the late 50s and early 60s.
